Students who have failed the DMV knowledge exam three times  are required by Virginia law to complete a Driver Education classroom program before being eligible to retake the exam.

Prerequisites

• Be at least 15 years 6 months old.

• Have failed the DMV knowledge exam three times.

• If you are under 18 years of age you must provide proof of having completed the classroom component of driver education (36 fifty-minute classroom sessions or a 30-hour online course).

• If you are 18 or older, you must either complete the 36-session classroom component of Driver’s Education (each session lasting 50 minutes) or take the 8-hour Driver’s Manual course, available in person or online.
